The Ministry for the Future is a climate fiction ("cli-fi)" novel by American science fiction writer Kim Stanley Robinson published in 2020. Set in the near future, the novel follows a subsidiary body, established under the Paris Agreement, whose mission is to act as an advocate for the world's future generations of citizens as if their rights are as valid as the present generation's. While they pursue various ambitious projects, the effects of climate change are determined to be the most consequential. Envisager un futur pour l'humanité

Un roman très riche, foisonnant de pistes et d'idées. La narration éclatée et le format finalement assez catalogue m'ont un peu frustrée, sans doute en raison des attentes de lectrice que je pouvais avoir. Mais c'est un récit incontestablement stimulant, y compris justement en raison des frustrations, des interrogations et des réactions (critiques) qu'il peut susciter chez la personne qui le lit, à propos d'enjeux très divers : sur le rôle de la technologie, du capitalisme et plus largement du système économique, peut-être un peu moins sur l'évolution des représentations et des imaginaires même si on y trouve aussi des pistes. Bref, un livre important par son thème et son actualité. On m'a suggéré sur mastodon qu'il fallait peut-être le voir comme une forme de fiction "porte d'entrée" sur le sujet ; ce qui, en soi, est déjà important.

Langatmig und Bruchstückhaft

Das Buch fängt aufrüttelnd an, verliert sich dann aber schnell zwischen Versatzstücken einer Welt in der Klimakatastrophe und einem Reiseführer für Zürich.

Viele Aspekte und Sichtweisen werden kurz aufgegriffen, dann aber einfach wieder fallengelassen. Stattdessen liegt der Fokus auf der endlosen Beschreibung eines Projektes in der Antarktis, unfruchtbaren Besprechungen mit Notenbanken und Beschreibungen der Schweiz.

Inhaltlich hätten es vermutlich auch 250 Seiten oder eine Sammlung von Kurzgeschichten aus einer Welt am Abgrund getan.
