It was there on the dark side of the Moon, waiting for the first human explorers to discover it -- an alien formation, a trap for the unwary, a place into which many men would venture but from which none would return.

Review of 'Rogue moon' on 'Goodreads'

4 stars

It was pure coincidence that I picked up Rogue Moon shortly after finishing Roadside Picnic but the parrallels were obvious, not only in the attempts to penetrate and understand a deadly zone, but also in the portrayal of the desperate characters collected around the project each one seeming to vibrate with tension and all of them pretty frakked up psychologically in one way or another. The means of penetrating the zone in Rogue Moon is a delicious science fictional idea too, throwing up a lot of what ifs and consequences woven into the plot, some of which will be familiar now to anyone who's read or seen The Prestige but which were pretty out there for the Fifties.
