I bought this during Independent Bookstore Day as a “blind date” book, wrapped in plain brown paper, with nothing but the following, hand-written description: “Tantalizing, surprising, compelling, and utterly fascinating; suspenseful and engrossing historical fiction; spectacular and emotionally rich.” I can’t think of a more perfect way to be introduced to this book.
