This novel was both totally stunning and extremely understated - bleak and unsentimental in its depiction of religious life and female friendship and backdropped by our increasingly impoverished society and the evaporating church. Entire worlds and characters constructed through painstakingly small details. I wouldn't say it's a banger, I don't know if I'd recommend it to every person I meet, but it was definitely for me.
