I cannot believe it has taken me so long to reread this book. I guess it was inevitable as I picked up a King book very late in life even though I had his books languishing in my library for ages. I picked this book up a few years ago after having read other "classic" King books. I know it has been hit and miss with the more recent Stephen King books but Some of my favourites are from the early '00's. One is this and the other Duma Key (which is probably next on the reread train).
Now I have never been married and a lot of marriages depicted in books is either about when a romance starts between the main characters or sometimes, if it's a series, we see their ongoing romance. With Lisey's Story we get to see what loving someone even after …

With Lisey's Story we get to see what loving someone even after they've died looks like. This is a book about grief as well as love with a little suspense thrown in.
King's books usually have a bit of fantasy thrown in them, especially connecting them to his own multiverse of the Dark Tower and it is usually in one of 2 ways. It either heavily leans in to it or it's a subtle nod. I feel this is a more whimsical representation with the introduction of the Pool and Boo'ya Moon and I adored this iteration with the myth/literary pool that imaginative people go to that inspires them to create, be it stories or art or language.
This was a love letter written by the spouse that has died for the one left behind. In their own language. We have seen this happen in any relationship that has lasted a while, we all develop our own sayings between people we have known for a long time. This couple had their own language too. Not only was Scott helping Lisey with the trouble he saw coming for her after he left, he also left her a means to help her sister. There are so many things in our life be it short or long that we forget - both unintentionally and on purpose and this book sure highlighted that. Sometimes it helps to confront it and sometimes not. Sometimes you don't need to know everything about your partner to be with them, just enough to know who they are to you and you to them.
I am sorry I know I am not making sense anymore. Let me just leave it at recommending this book to you. If you read no other King novel please read this one. It might be a bit cumbersome at first but there's a great a great Bool Prize at the end.
