Have loved reading for as long as I can remember. Fantasy (epic and urban) and sci-fi books are my true loves. Actively working to decolonize my bookshelf.

The male lead was a dumpster fire. I couldn't finish the book. So many consent issues.
He was engaged, his family disapproved, sent him to war. He was reported dead. She married someone else. Six years later he shows back up and is a miserable bastard to her because she moved on. He's written a play, naming her the villain, and is threatening to publish it unless she sells her land to his family.
His family who did their best to kill her after he left.
He keeps physically getting close to her, and she says no, but he pushes anyway. THIS IS NOT ROMANTIC OR SEXY THIS IS A LACK OF CONSENT!
It was so uncomfortable to read.
She was having a panic attack due to a storm and got in her carriage to leave the theatre. He pushed in.
When he grabbed her wrist and started kissing it …

It was a struggle at first, only because it was such a shift from the Honorverse which I have been reading for months now. But I settled into it soon and fell in love.
I'll be honest, I love the treecats more than the people, but I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes next.

SOOO good.

I had hoped at the end of the first RR book that we were going to learn a little more about Portia, and that she would be able to get herself together.

Such a relatable protagonist, despite her trust-fund.

My only complaint, and I realize that it makes a more realistic story, is that things with her parents never really resolved at the end. But there's more to the series, so maybe we'll see how that all falls out!

Holy hell.

I cannot remember the last time I cried so much through a book as I did this one.

That's all I have to say about that.

Not his best book. But also... a great book. It took sooooooo long to get into the action. But once we did, it was a great story, as expected. I liked more insight into the PRH.

I will say, If I'd have known how much rape was in these books... I'd probably have given it a pass. I'm trying to think if any of the books thus far have NOT mentioned it in some fashion, and I think no? It's generally handled well, with the "good" characters reacting appropriately. But also, c'mon. There are other plot devices for women, pls and thank you.

It did feel like, with all the setup... the final battle was kinda short-lived. But I almost view these books as one looooong book, so. We'll see. I'll definitely be reading the next one.

This was a fun read. The last two books of these series were a really great time. The women were so much more interesting and the men didn't make me want to become a lesbian forever.

Free is easily my favorite heroine thusfar. I would like many more books about her, please!
