Content warning Light spoilers about the themes of the book
At first I found this book a bit predictable (I mean, the title gives away some of the direction of the story) but I like how it evolved beyond that and how the larger story fell into place. The moody Scottish coastal landscape was a beautiful setting and the themes spoke to me (reincarnation, nature-based spirituality, kinship and community, good vs. evil). There is one part of the story that I think could have been more interesting, but overall I'm glad I picked this up.

I'm about half way through this book now, which I was looking forward to reading and learning more about living by the wheel of the year. I read through the first part which consists of short essays reflecting on associated topics like the many cycles found in nature and concepts like animism and mutual aid. Now I'm onto the second section which contains more practical advice. I almost feel like these sections could've been separate books but both sections have provided useful information and interesting ideas to incorporate into my own worldview.

A great starting point
5 stars
I must say that this book was a very inclusive and enjoyable read and a great starting point for discovering my own earth-based spiritual practice, and learning more about my ancestors may have practiced before the arrival of Christianity in Europe. I love how the author encourages the reader to take what speaks to and works for them, and leave the rest. I recommend it to anyone who has any level of curiosity about this subject.
