In the early 1960s, Virginia Hamilton's husband lost his job and decided to gather his family and the family's savings and drive from Huntington, Long Island, to Buenos Aires in a amphibious army "duck" at 25 mph. The passengers included the couple's three college boys, four young daughters, and a dog. It took over a year, but they made it to Buenos Aires. Virginia Hamilton wrote about the trip in Everybody Duck (1962).
