Mariam Dossal was Professor of History at the University of Mumbai. She is an urban and maritime historian of modern India who has published extensively in national and international journals and edited volumes. She is the recipient of a number of fellowships and awards. Her books include 'Imperial Designs and Indian Realities: The Planning of Bombay City, 1845-1875'; 'State Intervention and Popular Response in Nineteenth Century Western India' (ed); and 'Theatre of Conflict, City of Hope: Bombay/Mumbai, c., 1660-To Present Times'.
