I can see the echoes of Cormac McCarthy's The Road in this, and I suppose there are moments where the author evokes some of the same horror of the moment from Stephen King. But throughout this book I just kept asking what it was about, why it was happening. Just didn't end up working for me. Too many loose ends, too many coincidences, and one too many deus ex machina moments for me to feel like the story holds up.
