alembic reviewed Viking Age Yorkshire by Matthew Townend
Review of 'Viking Age Yorkshire' on 'Goodreads'
2 stars
While the subject matter is fascinating, the writing alternated between dull and turgid. The entire book should be heavily edited, though there may not be enough material to justify a full length bookâvery little is known about the Vikings in Yorkshire and a significant portion of the book is devoted to evaluating the strengths of the sources and their various interpretations. This would be interesting to some and tedious to many. The book was a slog and thankfully short.
That said, the book represents a significant contribution to research and would be valuable to anyone needing what are essentially extensive research notes in narrative form.
