"Family ties are tested and transformed in the new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author of Waiting to Exhale and How Stella Got Her Groove Back With her wise, wry, and poignant novels of families and friendships-Waiting to Exhale, Getting to Happy, and A Day Late and a Dollar Short among them-Terry McMillan has touched millions of readers. 4 stars

Betty Jean (BJ) deals with disappointing adult children, raising grandchildren, opinionated sisters, working a physically demanding job, and an ill husband. Her best friend, Tammy, who lives across the street, has her own troubles. It's told from the viewpoints of most of these characters, along with a nephew, an in-home healthcare worker, and a school principal. The relationships are well-developed, and there's a lot of humor and personality.
