Autobiographical account of Waters' own life and experience opening her restaurant Chez Panisse. There are some ideas presented from the counterculture, including eschewing formal education and qualifications in favor of interesting personalities and helping out friends who needed jobs.
Surprising to me, this book didn't have much in it about California Cuisine. Some of the germ of the idea is there, but no development, none of the collaboration and change over time. Nonetheless, it's enjoyable hearing stories about people making their own way, supporting their community, and building something new on values they believe in.
