Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and None (German: Also sprach Zarathustra: Ein Buch für Alle und Keinen, also translated as Thus Spake Zarathustra) is a work of philosophical fiction written by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche between 1883 and 1885. The protagonist is nominally the historical Zarathustra, but, besides a few sentences, Nietzsche is not particularly concerned with any resemblance. Much of the book purports to be what Zarathustra said, and it repeats the refrain, "Thus spoke Zarathustra". The style has facilitated variegated and often incompatible ideas about what Zarathustra says. "Zarathustra speaks about stars, animals, trees, tarantulas, dreams, and so forth". Though there is no consensus with what Zarathustra means when he speaks, there is some consensus with what he speaks about. নীৎশার কোনো বইকে যদি পপ-ফিলোসফি বলা যায়, তাহলে সেই বইটা হচ্ছে 'দাজ্ স্পোক জরাথ্রুস্টা'। লেখার হাবেভাবে এটাকে আমার 'দি বার্থ অব ট্রাজেডি'র জাত ভাই মনে হয়েছে মাঝেমধ্যে কেননা ফিলোলজার নীৎশা ফিলোসফার নীৎশার চেয়ে প্রকট এই বইয়ে।
ফিলোলজার নীৎশা প্রচণ্ড বাকপটু ও কাব্যিক। এই বইয়ে আমার যে দুই তারা রেটিং তা এই ফিলোলজার নীৎশার জন্য।
এবার আসি ফিলোসফির বিষয়ে। নীৎশার ফিলোসফি নিয়ে আমার যা মতামত তাতে আমার নাস্তিক বন্ধুবান্ধব আমাকে একঘরে করে দিতে পারেন (যদিও কারণ নাই কোনো ব্যক্তিগত পছন্দ ছাড়া)।
প্রথমত, নীৎশা আমার, সব মিলিয়ে ওভাররেটেড লাগে। তাও যদি আমার বক্তব্যের স্কোপ এই বইতে রাখি তাহলে বলবো নীৎশার ফিলোসফির চেয়ে নীৎশার সাইকোলজি নিয়ে বেশি তথ্য আছে এই বইয়ে। তার মিসোজিনির মত মাইনর বিষয়ের থেকে শুরু করে, নিজের বুদ্ধির ভেল্কি দেখানোর আউট অব দি ওয়ে প্রচেষ্টা এবং ক্রিপ্টোমনেসিয়া সব মিলে একটা sorry affair!

রিজেক্ট করা হচ্ছে সবচেয়ে সহজ কাজ। যেকোনো সিস্টেমেই ফল্ট থাকে, তাকে সেটা ধরে রিজেক্ট করাই যায়। ফিলোসফির ইতিহাস তো রিজেকশান আর নতুন কিছু বলারই ইতিহাস। সমস্যা হচ্ছে এইখানে যতকিছু রিজেক্ট করা হয়েছে তারপরে উবারমেনশ্ বিষয়টা কেমন হবে তার খুব একটা গাইডলাইন নাই। আইরনি হচ্ছে এত রিজেকশনের পরও জরাথ্রুস্টার শান্তি নাই।
আরেকটা কমন সমস্যা হচ্ছে অ্যাম্বিগুইটি। নীৎশার কথা পাঠকের ডিসপজিশনের ওপর নির্ভর করে বিভিন্নভাবে ইন্টারপ্রেটেড হতে পারে। প্রায় ধর্মগ্রন্থের মত আরকি। তো, সেই কারণে এই বইটা হতে পারে আরো সুপিরিয়র মোরালিটির পাথেয়, আবার সমানভাবেই টাইর্যান্টের ইগো বুস্ট।

I enjoyed the preface by Nietzsche's sister, but most of the time I spent in this book felt tedious and despising him for constructing a wise-man figure into whose mouth he could cram his terrible poetry.
Just as the ancient Chinese curse says, "May you live in interesting times," much of what Zarathustra says seems like it might have some wisdom, until you realize they're shallow aphorisms that weren't strong enough to stand on their own, so needed a fictional man of mysterious Persian learning to lend authority. (Of course, the saying isn't ancient and it isn't Chinese, but it certainly sounds wise and memorable when you're told it is.)
Who knows, maybe there's real philosophical value in this volume. Perhaps I missed the picture because I couldn't get past the frame. I'll read a commentary before I consider reading more Nietzsche again.
