I loved this book so much. To be honest, I can't stop dancing in my head about it, singing Rosethorn's bi, Rosethorn's bi. As a kid, I suspected Rosethorn and Lark were together, but it means so much, as a queer adult, to have it loud and clear that one of the treasured characters of my childhood is bi. It would have meant so much to me to have that role model as a teen, and I'm glad Tammy was so clear in saying so for future kids.

In terms of the rest of the book, I really enjoyed it. I don't think it was quite as good as Will of the Empress or the trickster's choice books (I was a little disappointed in the ending of Battle Magic, it felt a tad Deus Ex Machina) but it is dark, gory, complex, and interesting.
