Review of 'Robots vs. Fairies' on 'Goodreads'

4 stars

Robots and fairies might not be the most obvious face-off, but in a self-aware introduction penned by editors Dominick Parisien and Navah Wolfe (the team behind last year’s remarkable, World Fantasy Award-nominated fairytale anthology The Starlit Wood) capably argue that the matchup of science fiction and fantasy—magic versus technology—is more than worth considering. Each of the featured authors—the impressive lineup reads like a who’s who of genre superstars and notable up-and-comers, including Catherynne M. Valente (Team Fairy), John Scalzi (Team Robot), Analee Newitz (Team Robot), and Sarah Gailey (Team Fairy)—tackles the division in their own unique way, and not a single story disappoints. You’ll feel your allegiance swerving between factions with each tale, as the authors try to convince you of the merits of their case.
