This is an uneven book. Lots of chapters of characters sharing what the reader already knows, lots of ellipses. Shallow erotica passages. I suppose when one is writing a 928-page novel not every page can be perfect, but there are more loose ends and unanswered questions than expected. I relate it to a late-period Beatles song that sounds like three songs squished together.
