A Boring Epic?

I appreciate the scope of Dos Passos' The 42nd Parallel, it's a dazzling effort. Yet I never felt genuine interest in the numerous characters. Also, a stream-of-consciousness style doesn't work for me, so I found the Camera Eye and Newsreel sections nearly incomprehensible. I don't feel compelled to read the other books in the trilogy.
