I had to put this down. It was an exciting, engaging, page turner and then I ran flat into a wall of anti-semitism. I was worried it would go there when I saw Prague's Jewish quarter on the map, and yup, it went there. If you have no Jewish characters in your world, and then with your first Jewish character, you offensively rewrite an important Jewish myth as being in someone else's tradition, and cast an important Jewish leader like the Maharal as evil? (Really, I'm not exaggerating: "Because unlike Rabbi Loew, I knew what I was doing. I knew the difference between good and evil").

I'm sorry, but that is really anti-Semitic and gross.

I've also been getting less and less comfortable with Brigg's portrayal of Mercy's Native American heritage. While as a character, Mercy is well fleshed out, her heritage feels pretty character-y.
