I read this on the beach and it was a decent YA distopian beach read. Fast paced, likable characters, an interesting world that is slowly shown to you (instead of being quickly told to you.), and an engaging but not new in any way plot. It was a little predictable, but still very enjoyable. Also, the main character is a pretty awesome girl-warrior which always wins points with me. That said, the characters feel wildly over-powered, and you get the feeling that the book would be more interesting if instead of picking the "two, super special, super amazing kids, one "good" one "bad"," they had picked slightly more ordinary teenagers, the book would have been much stronger. Instead, the characters are already equipped with their +3 mega power of awesome selves, leaving little growth room. It's impossible to tell the voices of the two characters apart (it's told alternatingly) and the book is so similar to many other young adult distopian novels that it took three tries for me to remember the name of it when searching to review it, (cofusing it with other similar ya distopian novels) despite the fact that I finished it yesterday.
So, enjoyable yes, fun, sure, like candy. It tastes good for a little while but has no substance. ( Unlike candy, it doesn't leave you longing for more.)
