Carry On meets Arthurian legend in this funny, subversive young adult fantasy about what happens after the chosen one wins the kingdom and has to get married to keep it…and to stay alive.

Cozy and fun

This book deals with a scenario that is rarely adressed in the fantasy genre - what happens after the prophecy is fulfilled. Not only does the group of mostly very young people/teenagers have to figure out how to rebuild and govern a kingdom, there's also another magic trope - King Arek has to get married/find his soulmate. Some fun shenanigans and some drama ensue but given the target audience of the book there's also some surprisingly mature discussion of consent and the psychological after-effects of the quest. The characters are interesting, the writing style is generally light-hearted and funny. I also loved how almost everyone in the book is queer. A good choice if you want a diverting read.

There is quite some humour and sarcasm in this book, I love it.
I finished reading it within two days, for I couldn't stop myself.
I do not think that I have read anything like this before.
If you love Young Adult fantasy books and you want to read something adorable, you should probably check this book out.
