Bug Jack Barron is a 1969 science fiction novel written by Norman Spinrad, and was a 1970 Hugo award nominee. The story takes place in the not too distant future where an exploitative talk-show host Jack Barron gradually uncovers a conspiracy concerning an immortality treatment and the methods used in that treatment. Although perhaps not as politically relevant as it was when first published it remains a powerful read.

This is a book absolutely of its time, and perhaps is dated to us just because of how our media landscape has evolved.

I will note, with some distress, that the version I read (an ebook published by Reanimus Press) has had some textural changes - not many but enough to be frustrating. Replacing an AM-FM stereo with a DVD recorder, when the rest of the tone is irrevocably 60s, is Not Helpful, and I spent far too long checking things against an older text.
