Not your average middle book
5 stars
The middle book of the Age of Madness trilogy does not suffer from middle book syndrome, IMHO. Your mileage may vary but I felt it was action-packed and moved the story forward. Orso is now unwilling king, and not exactly beloved by his people. The commoners hate him for hanging the Breakers, the nobles chafe under his rule and set up heroic but stupid Leo dan Brock as his opponent. This book is the story of the treasonous rebellion against the crown. My only complaint would probably be that the actual warfare gets too much time, in that respect it is similar to The Heroes.
The finale of the book brings the unexpected twist and turn, as the Weaver is revealed, and it is totally not who I thought it would be. The Age of Madness is a fitting name for the trilogy, because things are wild here. Can't wait …
