For someone who has never read any Lovecraft I am thoroughly enjoying this Lovecraftian mystery series. Maybe I should read Lovecraft soon to get any references I might be missing. But even without having read any of his books I absolutely am loving the world in this book. As soon as a mystery is solved another glimpse of further mystery is given to us. I am looking forward to know more about Whyborne's sorcerer skills and if it has anything to do with the mystery that was addressed in this book ( to say more would be a spoiler so I will refrain from doing so).
This is one of the few books I have read where the relationship isn't heteronormative and the first set in a time where it was both dangerous and illegal. The book handles it pretty well and shows us the reality of the troubles/ obstacles …

This is one of the few books I have read where the relationship isn't heteronormative and the first set in a time where it was both dangerous and illegal. The book handles it pretty well and shows us the reality of the troubles/ obstacles this causes and doesn't sugarcoat the situation. The relationship between Griffin and Whyborne are definitely the highlights of this series but I have to say Christine's relationship with Whyborne is inching up there coming a very close second.
I am absolutely invested in finding out what other secrets Widdershins holds. It is looking like Widdershins is a lot like Sunnydale (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as a town that holds a lot of secrets under its deceptively normal facade.
For anyone reading any of my reviews - I apologize for the unstructured ramblings that I put down in this box. I am not always great at putting down what I feel about a book in a review and have no skills to be a great reviewer. But if anyone picks up a book because of a review I have written or because of a recommendation, that is all that matters.
