I enjoyed this book. Things work out a little too conveniently (in implausible ways), but if you can set that aside, it was very enjoyable, enough to go read the next one. It's also a very well researched history lesson (though worth checking to confirm since he changes some bits.) However I found it really helpful on getting a good grasp of the thirty years war, and making it comprehensible in a way history classes never had.
