The story follows Belle, who loves to play in the forbidden forest. Sadly, her mother ends up being kidnapped and possibly killed by the beast. The father punishes her by locking her away. Belle's determination to uncover her mother's fate takes an unexpected turn when the beast resurfaces.
The moment I saw that Kaori Yuki had a new manga, I instantly requested it. Having read several of her manga, I knew this would be dark and strange. This was the case! It’s a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, and it’s really dark.
There is a monster posing like the beast out there, stalking beautiful women and murdering them. And then there's the beast himself... Yes, he's beastly, but he's also shown some exceptional qualities (he saves Belle a few times and shows appreciation for her... sometimes, anyway).

My favorite part of the book was reading about the curse and the castle. The curse and castle heightened the story's intrigue and excitement. The perfect setting for the Beauty and the Beast story. It truly brought the characters to life.
When I got past the initial premise, it shrouded me in everything Yuki brought to the table with these characters and the world. The mood is dark, yet hopeful. When I first started reading this, I wanted to dive immediately into the second volume, and I wish I had it available.
The book's climax introduces an unknown foe, and I'm excited to see their impact on the story. It is definitely worth checking out if you are a fan of Beauty and the Beast retellings. With its twists and turns, this book will keep you guessing until the very end.
The ending will leave you with a surprise that you won’t soon forget. Don’t miss this great read!
