''But above all, above respect and esteem, there was a motive within her of good will which could not be overlooked. It was gratitude. - Gratitude, not merely for having once loved her, but for loving her still well enough, to forgive all the petulance and acrimony of her manner in rejecting him, and all the unjust accusations accompanying her rejection.''

Review of 'Pride and Prejudice' on 'Goodreads'

a delightful glimpse into an era long gone...

short plot description: centre of the book is the family Bennet, consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet and their five unmarried daughters. The setting is early 19th century England and we follow the chain of events through the eyes of Elizatbeth Bennet (the second eldest daughter)which is started when a young, handsome, rich and unmarried young man moves into the neighbourhood.......

A wonderful read, a light, funny and romantic comedy which even after almost 200 years still has some remarkable insights into the relationship between men and women and the pressures of society. Some parts reminded me of the "screwball comedy" movies of the 1930s.

Minor point: language and grammar felt strange in places which is only to be expected in a novel that old.

My advice: for everyone who likes romantic novels
