"VANITY, NOT LOVE, HAS BEEN MY FOLLY." Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is a classic tale of love and values that unfolds in the class-conscious England of the late eighteenth century. The five Bennet sisters—including strong-willed Elizabeth and young Lydia—have all been raised by their mother to have one purpose in life: finding a husband. When a wealthy bachelor takes up residence in a nearby mansion, the Bennets are abuzz. Among the man's sophisticated circle of friends, surely there will be no shortage of suitors for the Bennet sisters. But when Elizabeth meets up with the handsome and—it would seem—snobbish Mr. Darcy, the battle of the sexes is joined.

Review of 'Pride and Prejudice' on 'Goodreads'

a delightful glimpse into an era long gone...

short plot description: centre of the book is the family Bennet, consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet and their five unmarried daughters. The setting is early 19th century England and we follow the chain of events through the eyes of Elizatbeth Bennet (the second eldest daughter)which is started when a young, handsome, rich and unmarried young man moves into the neighbourhood.......

A wonderful read, a light, funny and romantic comedy which even after almost 200 years still has some remarkable insights into the relationship between men and women and the pressures of society. Some parts reminded me of the "screwball comedy" movies of the 1930s.

Minor point: language and grammar felt strange in places which is only to be expected in a novel that old.

My advice: for everyone who likes romantic novels
