And within the Forest lurk the Huldu—an ancient fae race, monstrous in their inhumanity, who have decided that mankind’s ascendency over the world can endure no longer. Enter Duncan Silver. Scarred by the war, fueled by a rage deeper than the trenches in which he once fought, Duncan is determined to show the Huldu that the world is not theirs for the taking. Strong new stand-alone!

Really enjoyed this early 20th century novel of a WWI vet returned to a Britain freshly invaded by The Forest and all the elves and magic that implies. He is an extremely fully fleshed-out character, a “woodsman” with a penchant for rescuing children stolen by the Huldu (elves). And his latest rescue may have something unusual about her that rapidly involves him in much more trouble than he expected.

An enjoyable read if you’ve liked previous books by Morgan and a really well done alternate history/fantasy too.
