This is a fairly short book of short stories about unusual people in strange situations, which somehow don't come off as just weird experiments, but each in their own way relatable. The viewpoint character doesn't come out and say what they are thinking and feeling or why, but concentrates on actions and descriptions to clue the audience in on what to make of each piece. Some are very brief, others such as the final entry have more going on in them. There is a lot of dysfunction happening between characters, and inside the characters' lives, and things don't always turn out for the best for them as they operate according to their own idea of logic. There is often a sexual aspect, but it isn't set up as an endpoint for the story. I enjoyed the stories overall. Sometimes I was mainly grateful not to be in their situations. I …

I listened to the audiobook version narrated by the author, who I think injected a little extra drama acting out some scenes in a way that might come across as flatter on the page. Definitely a plus.
