The book of strange new things

I struggled a bit with this book; in the end I think it was my lack of connection w/ the main character that made it hard to be overly invested in the outcome. As the pages passed, I grew increasingly certain that the conflicts that were most interesting to me weren't going to be resolved - which isn't to say that the writing, or the focus of the book wasn't compelling. It held me throughout - but I think I would need to see the companion work that fills in all of the gaps the book leaves un-addressed to feel better about the story.
