This book is terrifying and beautiful at the same time. The only other thing I've read by Victor LaValle is the short story in the Long Hidden anthology, and both of these works are surreal and plumb the depths of the human psyche. Nothing is what it seems to be, and both stories end with a ray of hope. I definitely want to read more by this author.
