Review of 'The pleasures of reading in an age of distraction' on 'Goodreads'
3 stars
A pleasant and refreshingly non-alarmist book to read. I've especially liked it's opposition to the stiflingly didactic, pleasure-draining approach of [b:How to Read a Book: The Classic Guide to Intelligent Reading|567610|How to Read a Book The Classic Guide to Intelligent Reading|Mortimer J. However, this book hardly opens any new horizons. Plus there is something in the style, in the sentence structure that is off-putting to me. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but I've found myself having to re-read sentences several times in order to comprehend them, and normally I am a fairly competent reader.
