first novel by Agatha Christie and first appearance by Hercule Poirot...
short plot description: when Emily Inglethorp, the head of the family and recently remarried to a much younger outsider is poisoned in a locked room after making a new will the day before a visiting friend of the family asks the retired belgian police detective Hercule Poirot to solve the mystery...
my thoughts: really good for a first novel. The character of Hercule Poirot is a bit rough and sketchy and there are one or two twists and turns too many for my liking but all the trademarks of what would she would later be famous for are here.
