As a book about war, this is a very powerful novel indeed and it really does capture the sense of being shipped from location to location, spending long periods of time waiting and then trying to survive a battle against a poorly understood enemy.

However, it's also a novel written in the 1970s and this shows in some of the jarringly anachronistic attitudes both assumed and expressed.

The Forever War is certainly worth reading, but I suspect I would have enjoyed it q lot more had I read it 40 years ago.
