Breeding Ground is a collision of body horror and post-apocalyptic SF and, as a horror novel, it's superb. Sarah Pinborough does trip up a little with the more SF elements, mainly by attempting to provide an explanation for the events described. These explanations didn't really ring true for me and did occasionally drag mne out of the story.

That said, this is a relatively minor quibble and the novel overall is well worth a read.
