Epikuro: The essential Epicurus (1993, Prometheus Books)

Review of 'The essential Epicurus' on 'Goodreads'

An interesting introduction to Epicureanism, which is a mixture of many classical philosophies. Epicurus tries to relate people's happiness with natural sciences and trust in the power of observation and reason. He also relates happy and virtuous life with the pleasant life, so he encourages indulging to materialistic pleasures, if they do not harm anyone. Unfortunately, much of his work has been lost and this book offers fragments of his work, so no final conclusions can be drawn and many pages turn out to be confusing and the chapters are incohesive.
