Review of 'The irony of American history' on 'Goodreads'

A great book about politics and religion that has a lot to say about America in 2018. This book will require several readings in order to absorb completely as the author is quite good at packing in the details.

Another great book in this great series. I am looking forward as this next great arc in the world unfolds. I hope the show lasts this long as well.

Brandon Sanderson: Oathbringer (2017, Gollancz)

Review of 'Oathbringer' on 'Goodreads'

A good third book in the series. It’s not as good as the first two, but it’s hard at this point to write when the characters abilities are so great. But the book and the series are still great. I just didn’t feel like some of the main characters were threatened at all.

N.K. Jemisin: The Broken Earth Trilogy: The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate, The Stone Sky (2018)

Review of 'The Broken Earth Trilogy: The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate, The Stone Sky' on 'Goodreads'

A great conclusion to a great series. I can not say much in order to have people who read this review enjoy the act of discovery.

A war that has been raging for 40,000 years still rages. Are you on the Right side? Your sons are dead. Will they be avenged? Your 10-year-old daughter has joined the forces of the enemy. Can you rescue her? Your world has been split in two by a volcano that your mentor created that reaches from the sea on the east, to the sea on the west. Can you close the rift? And you are slowly turning into stone.

I can not recommend this book more highly.

Book two keeps up the wonderful storytelling experienced in the first book. At this point in the book, you would think everything is laid out for you and the path forward is clear. That is not the case.
Jemisin creates a narrative where you are in the shoes of her characters, struggling to understand the world and the morally correct path forward. The questions are laid out before you about some of the most fundamental of human experiences. What is loyalty? What is family? What is love? What are desire and willpower? What will we do when all of those things are heading for a slow-motion collision course and the desires of one are overtaken by the willpower of the other?

This is an amazing Science Fiction series set in a far distant future. A unique thing about this book is that one Point of View character is all in the second person. This is one of the most pedestrian things I can say about this amazing and unusual book. I recommend this book to anyone who can stomach the adult themes of A Game of Thrones and loves to visit new world with characters you will care about.

reviewed Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson (The Stormlight Archive, #2)

Brandon Sanderson: Words of Radiance (2014, Tor Books)

The eagerly awaited sequel to the New York Times bestselling The Way of Kings.

Review of 'Words of Radiance' on 'Goodreads'

A great book two in a great series. This book should be read by anyone who loves a detailed Fantasy Novel.
