I like the book. I thought it was intriguing and mystical. I loved the romance that the book held.
And that's pretty much it.
There was no world building whatsoever, there was no mention of the gods in the story, and we didn't get much character development. I wanted to know more about the characters and I wanted to know more about the world. Instead, all of it is shoved under the table for a romance that is so lukewarm that lobsters are able to survive in it.
Don't get me wrong; the build up was fantastic. I just wish we got to know more of the characters instead of the one dimensional trait that we're given. I want to know more about the gods. I want to know more about lands and the other countries and what, exactly, constitutes to become a country. I wish there was more to the story than a romance that is shoved down our throats instead of letting us enjoy the romance in sips.
But, that's just my opinion.
Will I read the sequel if she creates one? yes because it felt like she just ended abruptly without any explanation. It felt unfinished and I want to know the characters better. I hope she does a better job with the potential sequel.
