One of the most powerful Iraq war narratives I've ever read.

Chaplain Turner's story illuminates the profound burden borne by those who care for those who wage our wars for us. As big as his heart is, the support the chaplain gives the men of his battalion comes at a steep personal price. Although he never is tasked with taking life, the work he does for his flock is forms trauma of its own, an experience that impacts him and his family in an enduring way.

An important and deeply moving read for those wanting to understand war's travails in a broader way.

Well-written, amply researched account of the collapse of several societies, including Easter Island, Norse Greenland and the Maya. Persuasive in showing how environmental damage leads to the decline of even the greatest civilizations.
