An admitted pandemic novel from John Scalzi who was supposed to be writing another, much more serious, book in 2020. But that doesn't mean that the Kaiju Preservation Society is inferior - it's just a different book. It builds an interesting premise of alternate earths and how humanity can interact with a very alien environment. The plot twists were a little predictable if you are paying attention but that doesn't detract from the pacing and general enjoyment of the book. Because it's John Scalzi there is lots of wisecracking and smart one liners, which if you like you like.
