Kazuaki Takano: Extinction (AudiobookFormat, 2015, der Hörverlag) 5 stars

What a ride, this was a really fun book to read.
There's lot of action and food for thought, I usually think about the stories I'm reading through the day but with this one that happened a lot. Human species can do so much evil but there's hope, improbable heros are everywhere.

In the end good prevails, as it should

This is not your typical sci-fi novel, it's complex and intertwined plot is not always easy to follow but it's so so rewarding.
This novel is amazing in concepts and ideas, it was groundbreaking when it came out for sure. In this book Stephenson coined the Metaverse term which is now a days more and more common.
Can not laugh at the main character name: Hiro Protagonist

Kazuo Ishiguro: The Remains of the Day (Paperback, 1993, Vintage Books) 4 stars

Felt a bit annoyed trough out the book by the tone of the narrator (Mr. Stevens the buttler), but that's probably a fault of mine. I've never accepted blind servitude the likes of lords had with their staff.
In the end this is a book about choices in life and how we sometimes are carried away without much thought. It makes you think about your life's choices, the options you took in favour of others less obvious.
It's written beautifully and takes you back in time, a time and place where dignity was something to uphold.
It's a 4.5 rounded up ☺️

Review of 'VANISH WITHOUT TRACE an Absolutely Addictive Crime Thriller with a Huge Twist' on 'Goodreads'

This book has a good pace, it keeps you motivated to find out more, although it seemed too obvious who the killer was too soon into the story and I felt the end was a bit rushed.

Alex Michaelides: The Silent Patient (Hardcover, 2019, Celadon Books) 4 stars

Through the book the plot seemed a bit lost and all over the place.
Most characters feel a bit bland and the psychiatric institution seems to be run like an highschool.
Overall I still liked the development and how everything unfolds. Also the end seems rushed.
It's a 3.5 rounded up ☺️

Haruki Murakami: Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and his years of pilgrimage (2014, Knopf) 4 stars

I don't love the ending, and some of the dialogues are written in a awkward way, a bit too formal maybe(?) even among friends of the main character.
I think this is Murakami book I least liked so far.
I rated 3 but it's more a 3.5!

Review of 'WHAT LIES BENEATH an Absolutely Addictive Crime Thriller with a Huge Twist' on 'Goodreads'

Hard, really hard. As a father of two, tears came and went, the subject is hard to read. It eats me up knowing there's child's in this world enduring what is described in the book.

Good:
- Writing: I enjoy the writing very much
- Most characters: although Mike is a bit too much Mr. Poirot to be believable I liked most character development and I'm looking forward to know more of what happens to them

Bad:
- some characters are too stereotyped for my liking
- the book depicts sex trafficking and main character ends up having sex with almost every female character

Definitely will keep going on the series.

I love Murakami writing but I have mixed feelings about this one. It's a depressing book overall, the story is a bit too dark, but as usual with Murakami we are almost transported to another dimension. I give a 4 star review (more like a 3.5) only because I still feel the good things overcomes the bad ones.

Kazuo Ishiguro, 宋佥: 克拉拉与太阳 (Hardcover, Chinese language, 2021, 上海译文出版社) 4 stars

Review of 'Klara and the Sun' on 'Goodreads'

Amazing story in a dystopian future where parents gamble their child's future by making them go through gene manipulation. Klara gives us her account on how Josie went through her most critical phase. Her view is a mix between that of a naive and innocent child and a very attentive adult.
In the end the Sun is one of the main characters of a novel hardly anyone can go through not feeling touched.

Loved it!

We're taken into a space adventure and slowly the details are unveiled until we fully understand what the heck is happening.
It may get a bit technical for most people and long, but I loved all those specifics, my imagination really took off by having so much details to live off.

Favorite book in a while for sure.
