5 stars

The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear is a fantasy novel in the style of The Phantom Tollbooth. Like Milo's mad escapades on the other side of the Tollbooth, Bluebear has a bizarre string of adventures in his life that he has no choice but to take in stride. From his time on the high seas with the mini pirates to his assistance of a heroic pterodactyl (and even some time in a rather bizarre school), Bluebear makes history everywhere he goes and meets nothing but fascinating, madcap adventures. This book is a zany, beautiful story that everyone should read!
