At its best, this book provided a unique perspective of societal issues in the 1950s through the character of Legs Sadovsky--a poor teenage girl with a vision to achieve equality and justice for the fringe members of society through her girl gang, FOXFIRE. Unfortunately, the story was bogged by the narrator's uneven voice, which drifted in and out of a tedious stream of consciousness to relay anecdotes that ultimately detracted from the best parts of the story.
