A novice surgeon in the 1800s is hired to an early Antarctic expedition to "The Edifice." The young doc is very much out of his depth, especially when he's called upon to perform emergency brain surgery.

Then things get much weirder.

This novella retells Poe's "The Fall of the House Usher" as a sci-fi body horror while retaining the gothic flavor with some delightful humor in the mix. What made this truly outstanding was the the recasting of the narrator as non-binary in a way that the transcended simple inclusion and allowed the language to add more layers of meaning. This was a very rewarding read.
