A fantastic origin story for the central character of a new series. While the central theme -- human trafficking and sex slavery -- is appalling and difficult to confront at times, Eisler does a masterful job weaving a page-turning plot around a complex character. Eisler did his homework, and it shows in the various locales, tech, police techniques, and plot twists. It's always in service of the story, and at each point I felt confident in Eisler's narration.
