January is a hopeless romantic who narrates her life like she's the lead in a blockbuster movie.

Gus is a serious literary type who thinks true love is a fairy-tale.

But January and Gus have more in common than you'd think:

They're both broke. They've got crippling writer's block. And they need to write bestsellers before summer ends.

The result? A bet to swap genres and see who gets published first. The risk? In telling each other's stories, their worlds might be changed entirely...

Too sweet, cinematic and predictable ending. I liked the frisson and banter of the beginning and middle and placed hopes that in the capable and experienced author that the ending would have some compromise or bittersweet irony, for verisimilitude. Probably closer to 3.5 as this reader had inner fantasy conversations with the author, and enjoyed 83.5% of the book, skipping over the 16.5% I couldn't get into or swallow.

Romance is not one of my genres. This started out funny and a little snarky—I was so pleasantly surprised. Toward the end (I didn’t really register the exact spot—I was enjoying a jigsaw puzzle), it was suddenly really angsty, and it ruined it for me. So, for much of the book, 4 stars, minus a full star for the drama nonsense.
