Right out of the gate, I've got to say I didn't care for the layout. It seems a bit haphazard for my tastes. Also, the assumed level of the audience's knowledge on the topic seems to really jump around. Some things got simplified that really didn't need to be, while others were well over my head and had no explanation. Given the expertise of the author, I think this is probably a 'curse of knowledge' problem. There's probably not much he could do about it personally, but having it screened by a terribly uneducated person like me might have helped. Beyond that, I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I had only recently discovered that there was a diy bio-hacking movement when I started reading this. Now I feel much, much more up to speed with the state of the field, and it's great import. I'm amazed that some of the developments …

The long and short of it is, read this book or in remarkably few years you're going to encounter some incredible and/or nasty surprises.
