Ok so this was a bit frightening because more than half of this book follows exactly what I experienced working in big corporation... so for those bashing start up with this unfortunately it is not anymore limited to this world (for years). This essay was nevertheless enlightening and really interesting while also sometimes making me laugh a bit (but in a bitterly way). A must read for everyone but hard to realize.

I checked the audiobook version of this from the library, as I recognized this from a few years back. I enjoyed parts of it, particularly his description of the disconnect from the jargon and new economy boosterism of the executives from the reality of the actual revenue generation and management. The discussion of the age/culture issues between the author and his work colleagues was a little more iffy.
I'm much closer to the author's age and could definitely identify with his discomfort and missteps with a group that's close to half his age, you could also see that his satire/journalism background was even more of an issue. The sections on the problems of Silicon Valley companies and their venture capitalist enablers are more depressing than funny.

Narcissism vs insanity: the book.

I was not sure about which rating should I give. One one hand, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is remarkably entertaining, and would deserve 4 stars for this. On the other hand, if the author wanted to communicate a message, then he proved himself to be an unreliable narrator.

It is hard to present yourself as exposing the vapid stupidity, ageism, sexism and sociopathy of the tech culture when you yourself come across as a grouchy, ageist and narcissistic jerk.
