I read all of the fiction in the Hugo awards packet every year, and one of the reasons is that it gives me exposure to a bunch of short stories and novellas that I otherwise wouldn't have heard of. This anthology is stuff that was on the nomination list but didn't make the final cut.

I especially liked AirBody (a story about airbnb for body rental surprisingly about food, connection, and the cost of the closet in a homophobic culture) and Exile's End (about art repatriation and colonialism). One content warning is that there are two(!!) sequential(!!) stories that mention the terfy antisemitic wizard lady books vomit emoji. I have no patience for this nonsense existing in any form in my personal timeline and so dropped these stories on the floor. These stories are the two by Catherynne Valente and Maureen McHugh if you also want to skip them.
